Pollen sedimenting through water or diluted honey in 30 ml tubes
In this video, a Lily pollen suspension is applied to the top of a 25 ml solution of either deionised water or 1:5 diluted honey:water. The sedimentation of the pollen from the top of the solution to the bottom of the tube is recorded. The main conclusion is that indidual pollen grains migrate from the top of the water to the base of the tube in about 6 minutes. When applied to the top of a diluted honey mix, sedimentation is much slower, with some pollen grains still not sedimented after 1 hour.

Pollen Sedimentation times in water - small volumes
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Місяць тому
Empirical evaluation of how fast pollen sediments in 1.5 ml water. Useful for beekeepers and palnyologists. the liquid height in the tubes is 25 mm. A good rule of thumb, with a sufficient margin of error to give complete sedimentation, is to allow 1 minute for every 1 mm height of liquid.

marvelous, up there somewhere with Paint Drying (2023)
Thank heavens for the ability to scroll through quickly 😅
haha Thanks youtube for recommending this. :) Probably because I've been watching gardening videos lately. Anyway, good research Chris. I'm certain this will be useful to someone.
A good alternative to watching paint dry! Keep it in mind for when you have an unexpected urge to become a beekeeper or amateur Microscopist. Enjoy your Garden now that spring is here 😊
Scintillating. Absolutely scintillating viewing. Had me on the edge of my seat for 20 minutes.😁. Plus, I just learned something useful for determining my own plankton sedimentation rates: using 1 min/mm of liquid height, as a baseline. Thanks for posting.... though I'm a little concerned about the algorithm used for highlighting this video on my youtube page.
After watching it once, I just scroll through at speed :) . Since we are both microscopists, a relatively rare breed compared to Swiftys, google probably has a special algorithm just for us! Could you use sedimentation with plankton? presumably only when inactive (chilled perhaps, or dead) as so many microorganisms possess the tendency to be able to zoom in and out of your microscopic field of view! Checked out your UA-cam videos and watched part of the rehydrated rock pool one and commented. Carry on! Good Hunting :)
It’s good to see some Tory mps standing up for parliamentary sovereignty and staying in the commons
As someone born in the US, its very hard for me to comprehend what living in a monarchy would feel like. Showing deference to people who are "royal" simply because they were born isn't something I can remotely understand.
The deference is to the institution, not the monarch themself. All the arcane procedures of Parliament are that way because that’s how it’s been done for centuries, and each action or statement has a story of why it started, usually involving the restriction of the monarch’s power and the primacy of Parliament. It’s all symbolism. America has similar symbols, you give the flag and the idea of the Presidency (if not always the man) a reverence that we don’t, since for us that is reserved for monarchy and Parliament. Our flag is just a piece of cloth, and our Prime Minister is nothing more than an interchangeable bureaucrat.
@@niro4833 It's certainly not mere deference to the crown. The members of the royal family are shown deference and regarded with reverence not only because of their office, but because of their ancestry. This is foolish because all bureaucrats _including the royals_ are interchangeable and replaceable. But of course, those in power will hold onto power by any means necessary... including (but not limited to) creating arcane and pseudo-religious displays of nonsense to create an appearance of legitimacy. The arcane practices are fascinating, but as the choreographed ceremony plays out and the Blackrod bangs 3 times on the specific spot on the right door of the house of commons... in the back of my mind I hear the voice therapist sitting in St. Edward's chair arguing with the future King George VI about the Stone of Scone... because after all... it really is just an old chair "held in place by a large rock".
I think the whole process is interesting. Not just the theatrics of the commons, but the process in its entirety.
...did this - now stuck on 2 pages per sheet ( or more) orever - how do we go back to one page per sheet - ADobe gives no options to remove the multiples oen selected - help ?

That thing with bowing and the hats is just thick.
NOTE: (Particularly for U.S. individuals) If you don't see the Tax Information button, then you may have not filled out the address details correctly, particularly the State field. It took me three hours to figure this part out. On the first part, I had my LastPass auto-fill-in function fill in all my address details. However, the fill-in process printed my state ABBREVIATION into the State field (for instance, "TX"), which is actually a drop-down box which provides the selection of the (fully-spelled out State (for instance, "Texas"), and the warning that it was not filled out correctly was not at all prominent. So if you don't fill out the State field correctly, you will NOT SEE the Tax Information box. Just thought I'd add that for all of those who are searching everywhere but cannot find the solution.
thank you!

Hi Dana, The settings only work on the computer they are set on. So when you send the file to someone else, they have to change the settings for that document in their Adobe Acrobat reader, when the file is open.
